Privacy guarantees
For owners
OwnerTags is designed so your personal contact information is never exposed by default. Your phone number, email address, and location are not displayed on tags and are not revealed when a tag is scanned by someone else. You control how you’re contacted and if any information is shared.
Mailing addresses collected for account or shipping purposes are never displayed publicly and are not shared with finders unless you choose to share them.
For finders
When you contact an owner through OwnerTags, your personal contact details are not shared with the owner. Calls, messages, and emails happen through the OwnerTags platform so you can help return an item without exposing your identity. You may choose to share details during the conversation if needed to complete a return. Learn more about returning a found item.
Information we collect
- Waitlist: name, email, and optionally phone (if you opt in to SMS)
- Account creation (invite-only): name, email, mailing address, and optionally phone (if you opt in to SMS)
- Basic technical data (IP address and user agent) for security and abuse prevention
How we use it
- To contact you about OwnerTags availability, product updates, and (if applicable) tag scan or account-related notifications
- To fulfill and ship physical OwnerTags products
- To facilitate return coordination when a finder engages the OwnerTags service
- To operate and secure the service
SMS communications
OwnerTags offers optional SMS communications in the following cases:
SMS messages are sent only to users who have provided their mobile number and explicitly opted in through the OwnerTags website.
Waitlist & product updates
If you join the OwnerTags waitlist and provide your mobile number, you may receive SMS messages about product launches, early access invitations, and service announcements. Message frequency varies. Message & data rates may apply. You may opt out at any time by replying STOP to any OwnerTags message.
Tag scan & account notifications
If you create or claim an OwnerTags account and provide your mobile number, you may receive SMS notifications when someone interacts with your tag, requests contact, or when account-related activity occurs. Some messages may be triggered by another person interacting with your tag through the OwnerTags platform. These messages may include secure links allowing you to securely communicate with the person who initiated the contact. Message frequency varies. Message & data rates may apply. You may opt out at any time by replying STOP.

Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. OwnerTags does not sell or share mobile numbers with third parties for marketing purposes. Personal information may be shared with trusted service providers (such as shipping, fulfillment, communications, payment, or hosting providers) solely as necessary to operate the OwnerTags service, ship products, or facilitate item returns. These providers may use information only to perform services for OwnerTags and not for their own marketing purposes.
