Why OwnerTags
Privacy-first contact, by design.
When something gets left behind — or needs your attention — the most important thing is a safe, simple, friction-free way to connect. OwnerTags is built to enable that connection without putting your personal information on display.
Anyone with a phone can use it — no app required!
The problem with traditional contact & luggage tags
Standard contact & luggage tags often include your name, email, phone number, or even a home address. That can help a good person do the right thing — but it also puts your personal information out in the open where anyone can see it.
- Visible personal details can be photographed, copied, or misused.
- Tags can be read by anyone nearby — not just the person trying to help.
- Once your information is exposed, you can’t “take it back.”
- High-value items like laptops, tablets, cameras, and tools don’t have an obvious place for a bulky label.
- OwnerTags gives you a simple way to add a discreet tag without making your details public.
The problem with many “smart” tags
Some QR or NFC tags try to modernize the idea — but many of them simply reveal personal information the moment they’re scanned. That can be convenient, but it removes control and can create unnecessary privacy risk.
- Scanning can immediately expose contact details to a stranger.
- There’s often no way to limit what is shown or when.
- Owners may not have clear options to update or revoke access over time.
- QR codes are easy to copy, replace, or redirect — which can send someone to the wrong site or a fake page.
Lost items often stay lost because there’s no safe way to connect
Many items are found — but never make it back to their owner — simply because there isn’t clear, usable contact information. OwnerTags focuses on the missing piece: making it easy for a finder to reach you without requiring your personal details — or an app.
Note: We’ll add supporting statistics and sources here as we finalize launch materials.
What OwnerTags does differently
OwnerTags is designed around one idea: enable contact without exposure. The finder gets a simple, secure way to reach you — while you stay in control.
- No personal information displayed — on the tag, or revealed when the tag is scanned.
- No tracking — OwnerTags is for contact, not surveillance.
- No app required — it works through a simple web experience.
- Owner-controlled communication — you decide how you want to be reached.
- Optional alternate contact — you can designate a trusted backup (friend, family member, or colleague) who is also notified and can help coordinate a return if you’re unavailable.
- Privacy-first by design — built for real-world lost-and-found and contact-the-owner situations.
- One OwnerTags account supports all your tags — across different tag types and use cases. Use the same privacy-first approach for luggage, backpacks, laptops, boats, rentals, shared spaces, and more.
